Jane Cochrane had gained experience working as Research Governance Manager with the NHS and as a senior lecturer in food science at the universities of Northumbria and Teeside. With a first class honours degree in Chemistry, a PhD in Chemistry, a Post Graduate Certificate in HE and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law, Jane wanted to explore how she could put her work experience and qualifications to best use and potentially into a business.
With initial thoughts of a home tutoring service and consulting business Jane contacted NBSL for support in developing her ideas and thoughts. With the experience and qualifications in place Jane needed to develop her business skills primarily business planning to enable her to put together a business model demonstrating a viable and sustainable business. Jane also spend considerable time developing a marketing strategy capable of engaging with her target client group making her idea less of a dream and a more certain reality. Jane also attended Workshops and Group appointments available through NBSL one of these was Web Design which along with the corporate identity Jane had developed allowed her to design and build her own website.
Funding was identified through NEWS (Northumberland Employability and Work Service). Cochrane consultancy incorporating Morpeth Tutors has been trading since January. The tutoring division offers A Level and GCSE tuition in Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Core Science, Food Science and Technology. Through the consultancy division Jane specialises in providing advice on regulatory affairs to the education and healthcare sectors delivering external quality reviews prior to inspection by Ofsted, MHRA and the QAA. Jane has enhanced CRB clearance and can be contacted on 01670 503992 or 0779722673.
Talking about her enterprise journey Jane said “The NBSL support was vital to turn my ideas into a viable business they encouraged me to build my business in stages concentrating first on the home tuition which is far exceeding expectations which was followed by Consultancy”.
