Jenny Ludman had worked as a Chartered Town Planner for a total of 15 years in a variety of roles in private practice, in local planning authorities as both a Development Control Officer and Policy Planner, and most recently for the National Trust as their Regional Planner for 10 years. However after deciding that she needed to address her work/life balance by adopting a more flexible working pattern, Jenny opted to start her own environmental planning consultancy in 2012.

After recovering from a serious heart condition David Proud was unable to continue his employment as a HGV Driver which led him to re-train in a new field. David successfully completed various study programmes and became a qualified Occupational Health Therapist in 2009.
Jane Cochrane had gained experience working as Research Governance Manager with the NHS and as a senior lecturer in food science at the universities of Northumbria and Teeside. With a first class honours degree in Chemistry, a PhD in Chemistry, a Post Graduate Certificate in HE and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law, Jane wanted to explore how she could put her work experience and qualifications to best use and potentially into a business.
At 46 it had been 20 years since Joanne Roberts of Bellingham last worked, she had spent her time raising her two children and running her home. Joanne is registered deaf blind but is a very independent lady who likes to take things at her own pace.
With her children grown up the time had come for Joanne to do something for herself. She enrolled on a Sage Training course which Joanne funded herself. Completion of the course raised the question for Joanne 'what to do with her new skills'? Being of an independent nature Joanne came up with the idea of being her own boss.
